Mark Waugh, the Australian selector,Australia’s domestic season started late last month but some of their top players are still in India with the three-match Twenty20 series wrapping up on Friday (October 13). There will be little respite for returning players with the Sheffield Shield season starting on October 26.
Three rounds of the Shield have been scheduled before the first Ashes Test starting on November 23 and will be used as auditions for a ticket to Brisbane.
Waugh said the month-long tour of India was too long. “It’s got to be said, it’s not an ideal time to be away from Australia,” Waugh told Sky Sports Radio on Thursday. “This series has been a bit spread out. It would have been better probably if it was a week or two shorter.””But I think they’re coping pretty well,” he added.
