Darren Lehmann, Australia’s coach, says his team will be prepared for Ben Stokes if the star England allrounder features in the Ashes.
Lehmann said Australia would not be caught off guard if Stokes received a ticket Down Under. “You’re always planning for every player, even though he’s not in the squad,” Lehmann told reporters in Brisbane on Sunday (November 19). “We’ll just wait and see what happens with ECB and the courts. We can’t worry about it at the moment.”
Lehmann acknowledged Stokes, arguably England’s most important player, was a much-winner but said the saga was out of their control. “They haven’t got him here, so they can’t miss him,” Lehmann said.
“We’ve watched him keep a fair bit,” Lehmann said of Paine. “He’s a high quality keeper. He’s been in good form with the gloves, as he always has been, and he has been very good for us in the T20s.”
