Northamptonshire vs Durham
The defending champions Northamptonshire were knocked out by rain. Going into their final league game in Northant, Alex Wakley’s side had the slightest of chances to qualify for the quarterfinal. They had to win their tie against Durham and hope the other results went their way. Unfortunately rain had the final say to their campaign.
In a do-or-die encounter, Wakley decided it was best to chase versus a side languishing at the bottom. Keaton Jennings’s bad run extended to the T20 games as well.
The opener was run-out very early, but Tom Latham and Graham Clark laid the foundation for the middle order with a 107-run stand, the latter scoring a 37-ball 71. The duo Michael Richardson and Paul Coughlin finished on a high to set a target of 209.
It needed a miraculous outing for Northamptonshire to pull off a victory, especially when they had lost badly to Yorkshire the previous day. However, they didn’t get a chance to showcase their batting prowess as the heavens opened up and there was no further play possible.
Brief scores: Durham 208/3 (Graham Clark 71, Michael Richardson 47, Tom Latham 37) v Northamptonshire.
