VIRAT KOHLI: Unbelievable performance. This was the best series win so far. When we won against England I thought that was it. I think this one trumps that. The way the guys handled situations was outstanding. The way Ajinkya led was brilliant. The changes that we made in our fitness regime paid off. We have been able to sustain our performances and that has been a big difference in our game. Starting at seven and finishing at No. 1 is brilliant from this team. There have been a lot of guys who have stood out. The responsibility has been shared and that’s the only way you can win.The kind of fitness the pacemen showed has been game-changing. The spinners dominated but the pacemen have been brilliant to watch. (On the injury): It’s still a few weeks to go before I’m ready to get back on the field.
AJINKYA RAHANE: We really enjoyed this. We have enjoyed this entire season. Hats off to everyone. Unfortunately, Kohli was injured for this Test. We decided during lunch that we would stop the runs and if we pick up one wicket we would get a break. The way Kuldeep bowled was brilliant. All the bowlers did well in the first innings. (On Kuldeep): We knew that he was bowling very well in the nets. We knew that he has the X factor in him. I felt from the other also the bowlers kept putting pressure on the batsmen. Umesh and Bhuvi were fantastic. Ishant and Shami too to bowl the way they did was special. In low scoring games, you just need 30-40 quick runs. We lost in Sri Lanka chasing a small score so I wanted to take my chances. Rahul was very steady at the other end. (Pitch): This was the best wicket we have played on all series long. If you stick around, this is a great pitch to bat on.
RAVINDRA JADEJA: Matthew Wade was talking to me from behind, and that motivated me. Ashwin picks up wickets from one end, or I pick up wickets, and there is pressure from both ends. It also helps that he bowls off spin and I bowl with my left arm. We discuss the plan in the dressing room. And we need to continue doing the same thing. My confidence is developing well. So I want to get a hundred and then celebrate. It was a good pitch for pacers, it was swinging too. There wasn’t much help for spinners on the first day. It was good for Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
STEVEN SMITH: Probably one of the best series I have played. We have played very good cricket throughout this series. Credit to india for winning the series 2-1. You give them a sniff and they go for the throat. india is on the toughest places to tour. To challenge them was fantastic. I think that middle session we lost half the side cost us big time. Credit to India, I think they bowled very well that afternoon. Umesh Yadav bowled really well and so did the spinners.
I think just the way that we have played in the series. The guys have done well and we have done well to contest against a quality india team. Against india you can’t let slip. I’m sure the young side is going to take away a lot from this series.
What an amazing place. One of the most picturesque venues in the world. The pitch also was very good. If you’re willing to bat time, it’s a good patch to bat on.
I have been pretty intense throughout this series. I have been on my team the entire series. I apologise for letting my emotions get the better of me this series. I am sorry.
