Mitchell Starc, the left-arm quick, and incumbent spinner Stephen O’Keefe are notable omissions from Australia’s 13-man squad for the Test tour of Bangladesh starting in August.
“Mitchell was due to go for follow up scans after the Champions Trophy, as part of his recovery plan,” David Beakley, the team’s physiotherapist, said. “These scans have indicated his previous stress fracture has still not fully healed to the extent we would like. He will now undertake a period of rest from bowling with the aim to have him return for the one-day series in India in late September as he begins his build up to the Ashes.”
Starc’s absence means paceman James Pattinson could make a long-awaited Test comeback having not played since Australia’s tour of New Zealand in early 2016. Pattinson is set to be part of a fiery Australian attack with Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.
