Sanath Teran Jayasuriya: Master Blaster of Sri Lanka
Sanath Teran Jayasuriya is an excellent Sri Lanka all-rounder. This amazing cricketer is known as one of the greatest cricketer in the ODI format of the game. His outstanding performance with the bat and his unmatched skills with the ball made him secure the 15th position in our list of top 25 cricket players in the history of cricket. His all-round performance has made Sri Lankan team win some very important matches. He has changed the way bating was done in ODIs. All the modern batting strategies are a sub-branch of his batting technique.
Sanath Jayasuriya was born on the 30th of June in 1969 in Matara, a Southern Sri Lankan team. He was the younger of the two brothers. He went to Servatius College in Matara and there his principal along with his cricket coach help him enhance his cricket skills. He was the captain of his college team. In 1988, Sanath Jayasuriya represented Sri Lanka in Under 19 team in the world Cup. His performance got him the attention and he was chosen for Pakistan tour few months later for the B team. He made two double centuries during his tour, after that he made his way into the national team.
Jayasuriya started playing from Bloomfield in 199 4 and in 2010 to 2011. He joined Somerset in 2005 and in 2007 he became part of the Marylebone Cricket Club. He was the perfect addition to their team. The same year, he played for Lancashire and in 2008 he started playing for Warwickhire. In 2008-2010, he represented Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League. In 2010, he also played for Worcestershire and in 2011 he joined Ruhuna Rihons. In 2012, he played for Khulna Royal Bengals.
Jayasuriya made his Test debut in a match against New Zealand on 22-26 Feb 1991. His performance in the match was as expected. His first One Day International match was on the 26th December in 1989.The match was against Australia and his last ODI was against England. The match was help on 28 June 2011 and two years later he was made the head of cricket selection committee. The last Test match that Jayasuriya played was on 1-5 December in 2008 in a match against England. Jayasuriya is one of the three players who have made a century on their birthday. He is holds the record for scoring the highest Test score ever made by any Sri Lankan player. In 1997, Jayasuriya scored 340 runs against India. His T20 debut on 15th June 2006 against England and his last T20 was on 25th June 2011 in a match against England. His ODI shirt number was 7.
Jayasuriya played 110 Test and 445 ODI matches in which he made 6973 and 13430 runs respectively. His batting average in the Test format of the game was 40.07 and in ODI it was 32.36. He made 14 centuries in Test cricket and 26 centuries in ODI. 68 half centuries were made in ODIs and 31 half centuries were made in Test cricket. His top score in Test cricket was 340 and in ODI it was 189. He bowled 8, 188 and took 98 wickets in Test matches whereas he bowled 14784 bowls in ODI and took 323 wickets. Twice he has managed to take 5 wickets in one innings.
