Cricketers History: Stephen Rodger Waugh or better known as Steve Waugh, Australian Legendry Cricketer

The Australian Right-hand batsman and right handed medium bowler, Stephen Rodger Waugh, is a world class cricketer. Born on 2nd June in 1965, in a suburb in South Western Sydney, Waugh is an outstanding player. He is famous for his exceptional hitting and excellent attitude. He has leaded the team to victory in very difficult situations. Waugh is known as Steve Waugh in the cricket world. His approach lead to a record setting set of consecutive victories. The team won 16 Test matches in a row, they broke the world record of 11 consecutive victories set by West Indies.

Early Life

Steve comes from a family that has sports in their blood. In twin brother Beverley Waugh was also an excellent player. The father was a bank official and the mother was a teacher, despite their different professions, the parents encouraged the children to play sports. At the age of six both the brother were playing organized tennis, soccer and cricket. He is married to Lynette and they both have three children.




Domestic Career

Waugh has been playing cricket all his life, but in 1984 he started playing it as a domestic level. He started to play for New South Wales in 1984/84-2003/04. In 2002, he became a part of the Kent cricket club and in 1998 he presented the Ireland cricket club. In 1987-1988 he was playing for the Somerset. Throughout his domestic career, Waugh has made world class records. He is among the most wanted player and perhaps one of the most elegant and handsome man as well.

International Career:

In 1984, Steve made his debut for New South Wales. Despite the fact that he was batting at number nine, he made 71 and made victory possible for New South Wales. He played another 10 outstanding matches of NSW, before officially becoming a part of the Australian cricket team. He made his Test Debut on 26th December in 1985 in a match that was against India. His first ODI debut was on 9th January in 1986 against New Zealand in which he took one wicket and gave 13 runs. He did not bat in that match as the match was washed away. The last Test match that he played was on 2 January in 2003, like his debut match it was also against India. His last ODI was played against South Africa on the 3rd of February in 2002.

He has played 168 Test Matches, scored 10,927 run with an average of 51.06 and top score 200. He made 32 centuries and 50 half centuries in his Test career. He has bowled 7, 805 bowls, took 92 wickets with an average of 37.66 and best 5/28. He has a record of taking 5 wickets in one innings during a Test match and he has 112 wickets either by taking a catch or by stumping. He has bowled 8, 883 bowls, made 7,569 run in 325 ODI matches. Waugh is famous for his 195 wickets in the ODI with bowling average of 34.67. He has made 3 centuries and 45 half centuries and is top score is 120 runs. He got 111 players out either through catching or stumping in his ODI career.
