Rangana Herath, Sri Lanka’s stand-in captain, noted that the upcoming three-match Test rubber against the No.1 ranked Indian team would be a challenging series for the home side.
However, the wily left-arm spinner, with 384 wickets to his name, said that the young Sri Lankan side is high on confidence after they chased down a massive target of 388 against Zimbabwe in the one-off Test played in Colombo.
India are ranked No. 1 in Test cricket. So an important series for Sri Lanka, especially in the backdrop of a fine win against Zimbabwe?
Different teams, but we’re playing international cricket. So it’s going to be interesting and challenging series for all of us.
What are the positives you can take from the one-off Test against Zimbabwe?
We were chasing like 380 plus. It was not an easy task. So that confidence will help the boys as we get into this India series.
Do you believe Sri Lanka need to use home advantage?
We need to look for home advantage. But at the same time, we’ll have to look at different abilities of both teams. We select the team on that basis. So far, we have played with more spinners but we’re playing against the world’s No.1 team. So we have a responsibility.
Last time, Chandimal scored 160 odd and then I took some wickets. But this time, India’s batting is very strong.
