England all-rounders Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes have both been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against Australia due to injury.
The pair had been expected to recover from their respective injuries towards the back end of the five-match series, with England currently leading the ODI series 2-0. Woakes is nursing a right quad tear and Stokes a torn left hamstring. Both injuries were sustained during the Test series against Pakistan after they played in the Indian Premier League.
Stokes is back running at “90 per cent capacity” and is able to bat, the ECB said in a statement, with his rehabilitation to continue during the fourth and fifth ODIs in Durham and Manchester.
The 27-year-old is expected to be available for the three-match T20I series against India next month.
