Worcestershire vs Derbyshire, North Group
Brief Scores: Worcestershire 185/5 in 20 overs (Joe Clarke 42, Ben Cox 40*; Wayne Madsen 2-20) lost to Derbyshire 189/3 in 18.2 overs (Billy Godleman 70, Wayne Madsen 58*; Mitchell Santner 2-27) by seven wickets.
Worcestershire lost an early wicket but a quickfire 18-ball 42 from opener Joe Clarke set the tone in the favour of the home side. Brett D’Oliveira and Ben Cox held the innings together nicely with their more than run-a-ball innings but it was the last minute fireworks from John Hastings that took the side to 186 as he hit two sixes and a four in the three balls he faced.
Surrey vs Essex, South Group
Brief Scores: Surrey 150/9 in 20 overs (Kevin Pietersen 52; Paul Walter 3-24) beat Essex 140/7 in 20 overs (Ryan ten Doeschate 28*, Varun Chopra 27; Gareth Batty 2-19, Tom Curran 2-24) by 10 runs.
Chasing 151 to win, Essex got off to a solid start with their openers adding a very similar opening stand of 47. Both openers though fell in quick succession that triggered a collapse in their batting line-up. Tom Westley and Adam Wheater fell in the 12th over on the same score, and that allowed Surrey to bounce back into the contest. Ravi Bopara and Ryan ten Doeschate threatened to take the game away with a measured approach but Bopara’s wicket put the pressure back on their side. With 30 needed off the last two overs, the Dutchman collected 11 off the penultimate over courtesy two back to back boundaries.
