Sri Lanka have left out middle-order batsman Dinesh Chandimal for the first two One-Day Internationals against Zimbabwe that will be played in Galle, Sri Lankan selectors announced on Tuesday (June 27) after naming a 13-man squad. The 27-year-old made scores of 12 and 0 during the Champions Trophy and wasn’t required to bat in the game against India. In all, Sri Lanka left out eight players who were part of their Champions Trophy campaign.
Asanka Gurusinha, Sri Lanka’s Cricket Manager and member of the selection panel, said that Chandimal was very much in the selectors’ plans. “This squad is only for the first two games. We wanted to try out a few younger guys and he is very much in our plans for the remaining games,” Gurusinha remarked.
Sri Lanka recalled 24-year-old all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka, who made his debut in South Africa early this year. Uncapped spinning all-rounder, Wanidu Hasaranga, is one of the most promising youngsters players in Sri Lanka. The leg-spinning all-rounder was a stand out performer for Sri Lanka Under-19 in recent months.
