History of Mithali Raj, Captain of the Indian women’s cricket team in Tests and ODI was born on 3rd of December 1982 to a Tamil family. Her Father Dorai Raj was an Airman in Indian Air force and Mother is Leela Raj. She is a Tamilian but was grownup in Hyderabad. Along with her brother, She started cricket coaching during her school days and played oftenly with the male teams. She started playing the game since she was of 10yrs age and enterd into the Indian Team at 17yrs of age.
Mithali became the Youngest captain of the Indian cricket team at the age of 21 and by now she led the team in more than 100 matches. She even holds the record of Most 90’s scorer. She is the only player who captained the Indian Team in more than one ICC ODI World Cup Final. One in the Year 2005 and other in 2017. She is nicknamed as the “Tendulkar of Indian women’s cricket”
She is even the first player to score 2000 runs in T20Is. This is how she set a milestone to reach 2000 in T20Is. She scored unbeaten 114 runs in her One day International debut in 1999. She even broke the record of World’s highest individual test core of 209* made by Karen Rolton by scoring 214 against England which was later surpassed by Kiran Baluch of Pakistan by scoring 242.
She is the First Player to make 6000 runs in WODIs and Second player to score 5500 runs in WODIs. By leading the Team, She made it to Finals in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup where they lost by 9 runs against England.
Mithali stood as the number one Cricketer in the ODI chart among women in the 2013 Women’s World Cup. She scored one 100, four 50s in test matches and five 100s, forty 50s with ¾ best bowling in ODIs. In T20Is, she scored about ten 50s. This Passionate Young cricketer is even Recipient of ARJUNA AWARD for the year 2003. She is even honored with Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award in the year 2015. At the Vogue’s 10th anniversary in the year 2017, shez been awarded as the “Vogue Sportperson of the year”. She stands as the first and fifth Women Crickter to score 1000 world cup runs.
This 36 years Lady is so passionate about cricket, She even says she is not in a hurry to get married because of her age. She further wants to study sports psychology and help young sports men and women. This shows her belief that marriage is not the thing women are made for there is so much even for women to do for their own satisfaction and recognition.
